Before you turn it on:
Enjoyable barbecuing begins with a barbecue that is safe and functioning properly. See that your grill is safe and ready after a winter's rest by checking for any unsafe conditions that may have developed.
Here is a checklist of items to look for before you TURN IT ON!
READ the instruction manual to refresh your memory before using your grill after a winter's rest.
CHOOSE an outdoor location that is not located under any overhead unprotected combustible construction.
INSPECT your burner and gas supply tubes, called venturies, for any blockage such as spider webs, grease build-up, or rusted out areas that would slow the flow of gas or cause a hazard.
CHECK all gas hoses for worn or frayed rubber. Replace with approved gas hoses. If they look so-so, replace them.
CHECK all gas connections with a soap solution to be sure they are tight and not leaking. To make a soap solution, mix one part water with one part liquid detergent. With the heat control knobs in the "OFF" position, turn gas supply on. Apply the mixture to all gas pipe connections. Soap bubbles will appear if connections are not properly sealed: repair as necessary.
NEVER TEST FOR GAS LEAKS WITH A LIGHTED MATCH OR OPEN FLAME.
INSPECT rock grids for rust or wear and replace if necessary. At the same time inspect and/or replace lava rocks or ceramic briquettes. Clean lava rock will distribute heat evenly to the surface and reduce flare-ups.
INSPECT cooking grids. Never cook on rusted grids. Replace if necessary. The cooking surface should be cleaned regularly. Use a brass bristle brush to lightly clean off the excess build-up on both sides of the grill. Use care not to scratch or chip any porcelain finish. Do no use abrasives on porcelain coated grids!
CONSULT your local Barbeques Galore store for the proper replacement parts to TUNE UP and TURN ON your barbecue this season!
